COVID-19 Reopening Protocols

The coaches and board of directors at Metro Tacoma Fencing Club (MTFC) are committed to doing all we can to make fencing a fun and safe experience again. We wanted to share some of the steps we have taken that not only follow but also go beyond the guidance from the Washington State Safe Start plan. All coaches are required to complete COVID-19 training developed and provided by Dr Diane Bartels, vice-president of the board. During the stay at home order the club purchased a washer and dryer to be able to clean our jackets daily. A detailed cleaning protocol was developed and will be followed by our staff to help keep our space clean and our fencers healthy. Please do your part to keep our club clean and safe. A fencer protocol was also developed that we ask you to familiarize yourself with and follow for your health and for the health of our other members. Everyone will be required to wear a mask covering the nose and mouth whenever they are in the MTFC facility. The Washington State Safe Start rules mandate that every member using the club also attest to have watched an informational video on our safety procedures prior to participating. This fun video was made by Coach Chris and his family.

During phase 2 which started 5 June 2020 we are allowed in-person private and semi-private lessons for small groups (maximum of five students plus one coach). Strict social distancing and a modified curriculum are required. Whenever possible, outdoor facilities will be used, weather permitting. No bouting is allowed unless bouting is between members of a household in private or semi-private lessons. Equipment and facility contact surfaces will be sanitized after each session or class by program staff.
