COVID-19 Reopening Protocols

The coaches and board of directors at Metro Tacoma Fencing Club (MTFC) are committed to doing all we can to make fencing a fun and safe experience again. We wanted to share some of the steps we have taken that not only follow but also go beyond the guidance from the Washington State Safe Start plan. All coaches are required to complete COVID-19 training developed and provided by Dr Diane Bartels, vice-president of the board. During the stay at home order the club purchased a washer and dryer to be able to clean our jackets daily. A detailed cleaning protocol was developed and will be followed by our staff to help keep our space clean and our fencers healthy. Please do your part to keep our club clean and safe. A fencer protocol was also developed that we ask you to familiarize yourself with and follow for your health and for the health of our other members. Everyone will be required to wear a mask covering the nose and mouth whenever they are in the MTFC facility. The Washington State Safe Start rules mandate that every member using the club also attest to have watched an informational video on our safety procedures prior to participating. This fun video was made by Coach Chris and his family.

During phase 2 which started 5 June 2020 we are allowed in-person private and semi-private lessons for small groups (maximum of five students plus one coach). Strict social distancing and a modified curriculum are required. Whenever possible, outdoor facilities will be used, weather permitting. No bouting is allowed unless bouting is between members of a household in private or semi-private lessons. Equipment and facility contact surfaces will be sanitized after each session or class by program staff.

Fees and Tuition: Summer 2020

Membership

General membership $65 per month.

Senior (ages 55 years old and above) $45 per month.

Active duty military $5 total discount per month per family.

Veteran $5 discount per veteran fencer.

All ZOOM class programming is included in membership fees. All current members will receive an invoice 5 days prior to first billing for verification and review. If you wish to cancel or place your membership on hold for a month, please notify us 7 days prior to the start of the new billing cycle.

Class Tuition

$15 per class attended for all levels, billing based on actual attendance. Active monthly or annual membership is required.

During reopening for phase 2 and phase 3 class sizes will be limited. Bouting and contact fencing will not be allowed except for members of a household. Coaches will focus on individual bladework and target work during class.

Private Lesson Tuition

Coach Chris $35 for a 25 minute session.

Coach Kim $35 for a 25 minute session.

Coach Chung $40 for a 25 minute session.

Active monthly or annual membership is required. Private lessons will be pre-booked on a first come, first served basis. Lessons will be released one week in advance. On the release day, please only book 1 lesson per fencer to give everyone an opportunity to book lessons. On the following day, you may book as many lessons as you wish. You may cancel your daily registration up to 2 hours prior to the class starting and will not be billed. Lesson times will be limited, so we hope that students will only sign up for the classes they intend to attend.

Private lessons can be in person or on Zoom and may include family lessons (fees are per session and not per person). Family lessons are for members of a household working with a coach during the private lesson time to allow bouting and contact bladework drills with personalized, dedicated, individual supervision for the session.
